ORC-A was originally established as Heywood Chan Architect PLLC in 2021. In 2024, the firm was officially renamed ORC-A DESIGN PLLC with Alice Or joining as a founding partner. The name ORC-A (pronounced Or-C-A) stands for Or Chan Architecture.

Since 2021, Heywood and Alice have collaborated on numerous projects, bringing together their diverse backgrounds, seamless communication, and strong client relationships - key qualities that define this young and dynamic design practice.

Having lived in the Seattle area for nearly two decades, they’ve witnessed the city’s evolution and cultural growth firsthand. Their work continues to connect them with new people, new ideas, and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the local community.

Heywood Chan AIA, LEED AP

Heywood is a registered architect in Washington State with over 15 years of experience in architectural design. Early in his career, he worked at various international firms on a wide range of projects, from small residential homes to large commercial buildings. He started his own practice in 2020. Renowned for his multifaceted talents and creativity, Heywood continually explores innovative design approaches while maintaining a strong focus on technical precision. His work consistently seeks to achieve the perfect balance between form and function.

Alice Or

Co-Founder | Managing Principal

Alice is an architectural/ interior designer and project manager with over 10 years of experience in design and management. She is known for her great vision and consistently providing practical and efficient design solutions tailored to her clients’ needs. Alice has extensive experience in residential projects, having completed homes across various cities in Washington. She is well-versed in the zoning laws, building codes, and requirements of different jurisdictions.
